Somalia Environmental Data Portal

By 2030 Somalia will likely be unrecorded nation by climate change reflections and storycal events. Despite the nation being one of the world’s most vulnerable to the impact of climate change, the lack of access to data in usable formats has made reporting on the issue challenging for journalists.

SOMESHAA started this project to develop a new climate data website recording, Open Climate: Somalia Climate Data Hub, which hosts a range of data on topics such as rainfall, river flows, natural disasters, croplands and forests. The website was curated from PDF files published by the Somalia Bureau of Statistics, Somalia national statistical agency and other relevant governmental partners and institutions exist. The reports were extracted, scraped and cleaned before formatting and uploading to Open Climate. Now, this data is readily available for journalists to download.
