The Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) thrilled to announce her yearly Green Science and Agricultural Journalism Award winner and selected prominent female journalist Asha Ibrahim Aden to be the legend of the 2022.
Mrs. Asha Ibrahim Aden is currently an International Broadcaster at Voice of America (VOA) and worked for several media outlets in Somalia including the government voice radio of Mogadishu which is the big radio station in across Somalia and privately owned radio Horn Afric. She also worked for the United Nations backed humanitarian radio station and better known as IRIN Radio but now renamed as Ergo radio and backed by the International Media Support (IMS).
Somali journalists frequently face political pressure and corruption attempts. Many media are directly owned by political leaders and business groups but their reporting for science topics is very low and SOMESHA needs to expand her efforts on training the journalists and rewarding for those reporting the science topics including health, environment, climate change, agriculture and science and technology innovations.
Since the Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) Green Journalism Awards inception in 2015, it was honored professional journalists for distinguished reporting on the sciences topics and civic issues.
